Art Matters: The Paintings of Robert Forte

Atlantic Gallery is pleased to announce Art Matters, a new solo exhibition of paintings by Robert Forte, on view from Tuesday, June 3rd through Saturday, June 21st, 2025. A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, June 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

In today's highly charged socio-political environment, the need for the arts is essential. "Art Matters" is a show that addresses this imperative through the artist's belief that painting provides a viable release for the concerns and emotions that are so palpable today. Forte's new work reflects a multi-faceted world of bold imagery and vibrant color as a metaphor for the crises we confront. In this context, painting becomes a cathartic experience. Our world is problematic and complex, but it is beautiful, inspirational and meaningful as well. Forte's paintings portray diversity, trauma and violence, but they also remind the viewer that there is much to be grateful for. The components that generate this exuberance are the "matters" which inform Forte's art and demonstrate why art "matters".

Robert Forte's paintings are held by numerous private collectors and are shown regularly at Atlantic Gallery and at the Meeting House Gallery in New Marlborough, Massachusetts. Forte is a member of the Federation of Modern Painters and Sculptors, and has exhibited in the Federation's annual show at Prince Street Gallery. Forte studied painting and drawing at the Art Students League and Spring Studio. He also attended classes at the School of Visual Arts, and participated in a workshop with Philip Pearlstein at the National Academy School of Fine Arts. Forte is a graduate of Harvard Law School and held the position of Deputy Solicitor General of the State of New York.
