From January 15th to February 28th, The Foundation Gallery will be transformed into a magical kinetic costume wonderland filled with wearable art, unusual accessories, and two-dimensional works that capture the vibrant spirit and ecstatic movement of costuming in New Orleans. Curated by Nina Nichols, local party physic and fabricator, and gallery manager, Alice McGillicuddy, this exhibition is a celebration of the animated quality brought to disguise and revelry by New Orleanians every day. With fantastical headdresses, local vintage, and a pre-Mardi Gras pop-up with local artist M.A.D. Nails, Momentum Indumenta has your 2016 transformation covered.
25% of proceeds from all sales will be donated to the Backstreet Cultural Museum in an effort to support their mission to archive and teach the traditions of African American community-based masking and processional traditions.
Momentum Indumenta will open January 15th from 6 to 10pm and will include libations and musical performances from Bill Nace and Jake Messina Meginsky on their Open Mouth Records tour. Music begins at 8pm.
The exhibition is free and open to the public and will open daily from 11am to 7pm, by appointment Tuesdays.
The gallery will host an Arts and Activism Fundraiser to benefit The Backstreet Cultural Museum in mid-February. Further Details TBA!
