(NEW ORLEANS, LA) FERRARA SHOWMAN GALLERY is excited to announce the sixth installment of its seasonal, online exclusive series. Paper Houses marks the fifth solo exhibition of Indianapolis-based painter Marna Shopoff. A sort of return exhibition in a few different ways, this is the artist’s first show at the gallery in nearly five years and the new work captures a sort of revisitation to the artist’s earlier, more architectural, style and subject matter. The exhibition will be on view from 1 January through 31 March - online only, with a small selection of works physically installed in the gallery throughout the run of the show.

There is something about the psychology of a space – an overwhelming sense of fascination. Have I been here before? What lives within these walls? Memories fold and layer. Pixilated with thought and color. Emotions linger and others vanish like ghosts.
Eluding the illusion of false facades and belonging – my new suite of paintings, Paper Houses, delicately constructs the themes of vulnerability, identity, and human perception - questioning my own nature of reality.
Artist:
MARNA SHOPOFF is a United States based Visual Artist with an emphasis on abstract painting and intuitive drawing. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and Master of Fine Arts degree from Herron School of Art & Design, where she has taught as an associate faculty in the Foundations and Drawing programs. Marna has led panel discussions on abstract learning and haptic drawing at the Foundations in Art Theory and Education Conference (US) and the International Drawing and Cognition Symposium (UK).
She is the recipient of various honors and awards including The Billboard Creative (CA), The Individual Artist Award (Indiana Arts Commission), and The Stutz Resident Artist Award (IN). Marna has taken part in exhibitions and artist residencies both locally and internationally, has been included in multiple print circulations, and has participated in art fairs including PULSE New York (NY), the Miami Project (FL), and VOLTA12 Basel (Switzerland).
