Charles Adam Studio Project to Present Feminist Connect exhibit featuring art by fourteen national artists in honor of Women’s History Month

Lubbock, TX, Date, 2022/ From March 4 to March 30, 2022, Charles Adam Studio Project will host an exhibit, Feminist Connect, curated by Sally Brown (West Virginia University) and Leslie C. Sotomayor (Texas Tech University) featuring art by fourteen national artists that each directly connect to a feminist artist of the past or present.

“In curating this exhibition, we sought out artworks that firmly substantiated a feminist connection of lived experiences, feminist lineage and larger social issues,” the statement by the curators reads,  “...in doing such, our role as curators is not passive but rather active as we are in conversation, through the art, with individual stories by the artists, but also curating a collective visual language that centers on co-creating knowledge with care.”

The gallery exhibit evolved from the online exhibition that launched Women’s History Month of 2021, including work by 39 international artists. The abbreviated exhibit will also include works by the curators, who are also practicing artists.

The artists presented include emerging, mid and mature creative contributors, exploring issues through personal and collective narrative via painting, drawing, sculpture, video and mixed media. Significant themes presented include menstruation, the body, grief, love, identity, and invisibility, all around the main theme honoring the lineage of feminist artists before and around them.

The curators will host a virtual artists-curators discussion Friday, Mar 4, 2022, 12pm CT, registration open to all, register here https://texastech.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwod-uorjwoE9SDFR-X6dl8VgTzk9qiwgzW

This discussion will include featured artists Ghi Fremaux and Tricia Townes in conversation with curators Brown and Sotomayor.

The gallery will host an opening reception that evening, Mar 4, 2022, at the 5&J Gallery, 1106 5th Street, Lubbock TX, 79401.
