TENDER GROUND by Pamela Smith-Hudson & Kristan Marvell
Pamela Smith-Hudson’s painting and Kristan Marvell’s sculptures can be both elegant and gritty. Using irreverent techniques and strong gestural momentum, they create compelling objects that resonate with a power found outside of representation and language. The physicality embedded in their artwork is intertwined with its meaning, and through Smith-Hudson’s and Marvell’s hands-on approaches, non-verbal impulses are expressed, spirituality and dark rumblings from the unconscious are emoted, and the tender honesty of their processes are revealed.
Nest of Sadness by Eva Malhotra
Eva Malhotra’s jewel-like paintings are composed of multi-layers of different colored paint from which she carves out gestural lines and forms to construct complex compositions. Malhotra’s vibrant palette emphasizes the primal beauty of our world, while structural tension is created through the use of vigorous incisions and grids that reference divisive, arbitrary divisions, and hints at the disintegration to come.
