Los Angeles, July 2016 — LAM Gallery is pleased to announce Me, Myself and I, an exhibition of 3 bodies of works by artist Jay Lizo.

The exhibition comprises of a variety of work, ranging from layered collage, paintings, brightly colored portraits, animations projections, to rock like resin microphone sculptures.  Jay Lizo explores themes of fantasy, history, collecting, and transformation between the three bodies of work.

Song From My Hero Collection is a grid of portraits that the artist considers to be a hero. Jay Lizo’s cartoon painted heroes are depicted in moments of singing or speaking. Together they form a collective voice of truth and fiction.
Dreaming Of A Year of Hiroshige is the artist’s most abstract work. These abstract paintings blend imagery with material. The paintings combine a mixture of Xerox copies, linoleum prints, gel acrylic, spray paint, and found paper. The work from this series is inspired by a calendar of Hiroshige prints, which the artist had on his work desk.
The Luscher Record Test is eight circular paintings. Each monochromatic painting is a self-portrait. Heads are deformed, hands are flat and bubbly, eyes are misaligned. As a whole, the artist takes a humorous view on how selfies can reexamined.

Jay Lizo is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. Jay received his MFA in 2005 at UCSB and BFA at Ringling School of Art and Design. Jay’s work has been included in exhibitions at Blum and Poe Gallery in Los Angeles, New Americans Museum in San Diego, High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree, Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, Torrance Art Museum, Oxnard, Cypress, and Long Beach Colleges, Eagle Rock Center for the Arts, Los Angeles’ Elephant Space, Raid Projects, Seeline Gallery, and Kristi Engle Gallery; in addition to exhibitions in St. Louis, MI, New York, NY, and Austria.
