Fresh Awards Exhibition, 2018, is a group show of nine artists who were selected from over 400 artist entries last year in the Fresh 2017 juried exhibition. Jurors, Fatemeh Burnes and Peter Frank, selected the artists they agreed made a strong impact and best represented current ideas and trends in Contemporary Art.

Fresh 2017 had works submitted from across the country and the globe and it was divided into two exhibitions: Fresh 2017 in March (30 artists) and Fresh Cont. in July 2017 (33 artists). From this group of 63 artists, Peter and Fatemeh picked 9 artists to show a year later, Fresh Awards Exhibition, 2018.

Statement by juror and LA Art Critic, Peter Frank, regarding the Fresh Awards Exhibition, 2018, selection process: “Ultimately, it is up to the jurors, in concert with those who manage the host space, to present the art to its maximum effect – and to maintain the character of the space even beyond considerations of pure quality.  In selecting from a sophisticated group of submissions, works in so many media coming from so many corners of the country and even the world, we tried to keep both the above principles in mind. The participants in Fresh 2017 were selected entirely on the merits of the submitted work. From that array, we determined a special selection of artists, three drawn from each of three categories (two-dimensional, three-dimensional, photography), that would work especially well in the new SoLA space. Accordingly, after being left to our own devices in choosing the original (two-part) Fresh show, we made the second determination with the guidance of those who operate SoLA and SBC…”
