Adam Enrique Rodriguez, Not Everything is Black + White

on Thursday, November 14 from 6:30 — 8:00pm.
As We Dwell is pleased to present Not Everything is Black + White, an exhibition of new paintings by Indio based artist Adam Enrique Rodriguez. Known for his signature street-style paintings of faces and human figures, Rodriguez incorporates classical techniques, in an ongoing conversation around the fundamental aspects of the human condition, primitive art, psychology and the evolution of consciousness; as he describes, “a portrait of our humanity based off of my own identity.” For this body of work, Rodriguez reduces facial features into black and white shapes to compose expressive abstract paintings in various scales. A special artist reception will accompany Rodriguez’s paintings where participants experience the work come to life on models painted black and white along with a live music performance by Black Market Jazz ensemble. The public is cordially invited to attend the artist reception on Thursday, November 14 from 6:30 to 8:00pm and guests are encouraged to wear black and white attire. The exhibition runs from November 14 through December 14, 2019 and will be on view by appointment only.
Artist:
Born and raised in Indio, California, Rodriguez is quickly becoming one of California’s most prominent emerging artists. The belief that art is a tool for social change has led to features by charitable and community activist organizations such as TOMS shoe company, PBS, and the social justice pop up exhibition “Into Action” and “We Rise”, presented by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health. In high school his work was featured in Palm Springs Art Museum, and was awarded a scholarship to attend Laguna College of Art and Design. He later gained recognition from The Broad Foundation for his painting, “Interpreting Light”. Since 2016, he has created over 20 murals in commercial and private residences as well as large scale murals displayed at music festivals throughout California.
