MOMENT to MOMENT, a collection of paintings by local artist Laura Letchinger coupled with mosaic works by her special guest, Piece by Piece, will open on Saturday, December 3rd, at Loiter Galleries in Downtown Long Beach

MOMENT to MOMENT features 20 new paintings by Laura, a product of the growth she experienced during the Covid lockdown. Always an abstract expressionist painter, Laura believes she stretched her boundaries in this collection. It’s a series of both small and large works that she linked together by the thick thread of hope.

Piece by Piece’s art works are  a series of mosaics.  A non-profit arts collective, Piece by Piece has worked to connect with residents of South Los Angeles and LA’s skid row by introducing them to the world of mosaic art. The mosaics’  melding of form and thought breathes new life into materials that are mostly recycled and then put into public spaces previously lacking color and whimsy.

The collaboration of Laura Letchinger’s paintings and Piece by Piece’s mosaics showcases many mediums.  Piece by Piece’s  sculptures and wall hangings and both indoor and outdoor public art murals complement the spirit of Laura’s contemporary paintings.

Loiter Galleries  is a kindred spirit to the partnership of Moment to Moment. Loiter has long been the vehicle for underserved artists, by providing them with affordable exhibit space so all can partake in the healing power of art.

The show will run throughout the month of December, with the closing date of January 7, 2023.

Loiter Galleries hours are Thursday - Saturday, 5-8 PM; and Sunday, 1-4 PM.

Artist ( Description ):

For me, painting starts with an empty mind and a blank canvas. Varied intuitive marks then start interacting with each other, patterns appear, recede and reappear, and finally a path to the finish emerges, usually in a burst of inspiration. Abstract expressionistic with graffiti and street art influences, it's the contrasts and differences that pop up in this process that I enjoy the most. Although I mainly create large, original paintings in various sizes can be purchased directly from my art studio in Los Angeles. Paintings have been placed internationally in public and private spaces by art collectors, interior designers, art consultants, architects and real estate developers. Have fun viewing artworks on your own walls, and thanks for visiting! Please email me with any questions, comments or purchase inquiries.

Established in 2018, Loiter Galleries mission is to support local underserved artists

by providing affordable gallery space, promotion, and general support

even during the most challenging of times. We also serve the business community and our Long Beach neighborhoods by filling vacant store fronts with art and optimism.

We believe that art is a powerful tool in the evolution of neighborhoods and cities. And that the accessibility of art is of the utmost importance.

Additionally Loiter Galleries fills a void.  Mainly, serving the various needs of the underserved artists . The programs we develop assist both the business district and the arts community directly. For the artists, we supply affordable gallery showcases, marketing, supplies, meeting space, art business advice, and emotional support.

Conversely we aid local property owners by converting dark, empty spaces with art and positive activity. Artists finally have a venue to display their art and receive the support they need to learn how to be successful. The property owners sell/lease their spaces more quickly via the brightness, activity, and popularity of our projects.

Another core audience naturally, are art lovers and supporters. We serve them by presenting them with artists we discover and who are out of the mainstream. Although some of our artists are established, the shows they create tend to be more adventurous and push the boundaries. This occurs through our direction and collaboration.

Many of our visitors have never been in a gallery previously.
