Photographer Michael Massaia’s exhibition "Try and Remember" features images that are a reckoning with memory. By creating a feeling of intimacy between photographer and subject, Massaia asks us to try and remember a past that has been irrevocably changed by the passage of time. Whether a portrait of a phone booth or pinball machine, a vacant hotel, or a deserted path in Central Park, Massaia breaths life and light into the dark and inanimate. The luminous nature of silver gelatin prints is paired perfectly with each of his subjects. The combination of masterful printing and an unadulterated artistic vision

Artist ( Description ):

Michael Massaia is a fine art Photographer and Printmaker who has spent the past fifteen years documenting areas and objects that never extend to far from his front door. Isolation, disconnection, and an attempt to put a spotlight on the ordinary are the constant in all of his work.  He focuses, primarily, on large format, black and white film, utilizing a variety of highly modified proprietary analog and digital printing techniques.  Michael works alone and is the sole craftsman from the instant the negative is exposed to the moment the final print is made.
