Laura McPhee "The Home and the World: A View of Calcutta"

Gail Severn Gallery will be exhibiting nationally recognized photographer Laura McPhee’s newest body of work: ‘Home and the World: A View of Calcutta’ which features a selection of photographs taken during her trips to eastern India over the past decade. Through her photography, Laura expertly captures both the architectural vestiges of the past alongside markers of contemporary urban life in modern day Calcutta. Examining both domestic and public spaces, the series reflects on the colonial influence, personal histories, the growing influence of globalization and the complex relationship between India and the West.  The new book ‘ Home and the World: A View of Calcutta’, published by Yale University Press is available for purchase at the gallery.
