Wood, Skeletonized Leaves, Seeds and Mixed Media

AUGUST 3 - 28

FIRST FRIDAY RECEPTION Aug 4, 5-8PM

In August Carolyn King is having an exhibition of new work.  The show, entitled “Transitions”, explores concepts of change and impermanence and will include sculptures made from wood, leaf skeletons and other material found in nature, as well as natural forms fabricated out of mixed media.

Pieces include a large hollow maple wood round carved with organic shapes on both sides, three wall hangings, two of made from leaf skeletons and seeds, the other of dangling grape vines with soaring bird shapes whose feathers are fashioned from bamboo leaves, a tall spiral of pine needle ropes as well as two natural shapes fabricated out of mixed media and a flock of colorful hanging bird shapes collaged with maps/music.

Partners Gallery is located at 335 N. Franklin Street in Fort Bragg and is open Wednesday through Monday 10 am to 5 pm and Sundays 10 am to 4 pm. 707 962-0233  http://www.partnersgallery.com>

Artist ( Description ):

Carolyn King is a visual artist whose main sensibility relates to her environment .  Nature inspires her work, and stimulates her use of natural materials such as wood, roots, pine needles and leaves to express her ideas.  The sculptures evolve primarily from found material the artist often combines with natural forms fabricated out of mixed media.

This show “Transitions” explores concepts of change and impermanence.    The Japanese have a poetic phrase, "mono no aware", which recognizes ephemerality is somehow integral to beauty.  As we age and the seasons in nature change, we have a chance to reflect on the intertwining of beauty and transiency.
