Gallery 1855 is pleased to announce an exciting exhibition from artist Dave Hennessy. The exhibition will run from April 1-April 30th and a special artist reception will be held Sunday, April 9th, 2017 from 1-4:00pm.

Dave Hennessy is a photographer who creates ethereal and surreal images of his natural surroundings. The images are printed on aluminum that is infused with dyes and wood board that is marked with ink. His use of alternative materials gives the work the appearance of a painting. Wood amplifies the image’s organic earthiness. Aluminum amplifies the image’s luminosity even under normal room lighting. His work reflects his artistic influences of Ansel Adams, Richard Diebenkorn (figurative paintings), Morris Graves, Edouard Manet (flower paintings), Odilon Redon, Joseph Mallord, William Turner, Vincent van Gogh, Johannes Vermeer, and James McNeill Whistler. This will be a must see exhibition.

“Twenty-three of the twenty-four images in this exhibit were captured within easy walking distance of my home. The twenty-fourth image was created entirely digitally. Hopefully, in capturing and working with the images I have revealed some of the extraordinary and the miraculous hiding-in-plain-sight in the everyday-ordinary. Something grand is always nearby—one doesn’t have to go somewhere special.

Integral to the experience of each work is its title, square format, and medium. In contrast to a rectangle, squares better lend themselves to a more immediate and intimate experience of the image. The rectangular format encourages the eye to move from end to end. Consequently, the image feels more “out there.” The square format encourages the eye to move around. The image feels more “close-up.”

Gallery 1855 is a non-profit contemporary art gallery located at the Davis Cemetery District. All works will be for sale by the artist. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 9-4:00pm with artist receptions held every second Sunday from 1-4:00pm.
