The work of photographer John Csongradi will be featured in a solo exhibit at the Peninsula Art Institute. The exhibit will be on view May 21 through June 28, 2015 with a reception Sunday, June 28 from 1-4 pm. Admission is free.

Csongradi is not only a photographer, but also an engineer and orthopedic surgeon. Although now (mostly) retired from the latter two, the precision and care he has fostered as an engineer and surgeon contribute visibly and dynamically to his photography. He creates abstract still life images with a digital scanning panoramic technique..

Csongradi notes, “Abstract forms are my main thrust in the studio. The images produced here are still lifes with a twist. Using a large format camera with a scanning back and a turntable which rotates the subject, I can “unwrap” the surface and contents of an object, transforming both natural and human-made things into abstract (and sometimes frightening) forms.
