Amos Eno Gallery is proud to announce the opening of steadfast Amos Eno Gallery member artist Mimi Oritsky's solo show, The Hidden Edge. Featuring both works on paper and paintings on canvas, Oritsky's show examines atmosphere, light, and subtle changes in perspective that shift the framework for examining a place or landscape. These works evoke a range of landscape locations through their titles while also allowing space for ambiguity and for the viewer to draw their own connections across forms and imbued with light and movement.

"My working process involves the quality of airspace and how it can be translated into paint," remarks Oritsky. "While drawing the elements from above, I am aware of how we lose eye-level perspective and normal angles.  These losses force me to explore space, scale, and time.  In moving away from the aerial sense of perspective, but remaining above the view, I watch the air as it is contained within its pre-defined spatial parameters.  When I am moving fast, as on a moving train, the elements seem to have a sense of urgency, a desire to catch up, within the vast stillness of the airspace."

Visitors are welcome to view The Hidden Edge as a series of changing viewpoints captured over specific moments in time. Through these evocative landscapes, these scenes are treated as snapshots of the effects of light and atmosphere on the personality of unique environments. Spanning lush green slopes and sparse desert scenes in equal measure, this body of work gives room for contemplating how the everyday scenes we encounter can be greatly impacted by the conditions in which we encounter them, becoming magical or mundane according to our perspective and the impact of atmosphere and light.

Mimi Oritsky received an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Fine Arts and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art.  Oritsky has received Purchase Awards from the Reading Public Museum and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts/Arcadia University.  She was awarded Residence Fellowships from the Heliker-LaHotan Foundation, the Millay Colony for the Arts, and the Artists for Environment Foundation.  Oritsky currently lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
