SylC paints the human figure by discovering what is inside. It is like a mirror effect, bringing us back to ourselves and to our history.
SylC builds her surfaces with layers of paint and glazes and then scrapes them away to discover previous marks and color using this as a window to reveal the history of a work. The overall compositions are dreamlike, balanced beautifully between light and dark imagery that stem from the artist’s fragmented thoughts, memory and present moment. Her surreal and timeless characters communicate without words when words simply won’t do.
