Art.Science.Gallery. invites you to the opening of The Birds, our newest art exhibition about ornithology: the science of birds. 10 artists from Texas, Illinois, Florida, Missouri and Portugal will showcase work that is steeped in and reflective of scientific ideas about birds. Works in the exhibition explore topics such as bird migration, communication, taxonomy, feeding behavior, natural history, flight behavior, bird diversity and conservation.

This exhibition is dedicated to ornithologist James “Sandy” Beach (1947-2015), who was a wonderful mentor and friend to gallery founder/director Dr. Hayley Gillespie. Together, they ventured into nature with a sense of fun and discovery. Proceeds from this exhibit will help establish a new scholarship fund managed by the gallery in Sandy’s honor: The Sandy Beach Award for Natural History to help support the education and development of future generations of natural historians who are current students at Austin College.
