About the artist:
Robert Maloney, a Massachusetts native, completed his Masters of Fine Arts in August of 2014 from Massachusetts College of Art and Design through their interdisciplinary Summer Low Residency MFA program. Robert also earned a BFA from MassArt in 1996 through the Illustration department.
Robert has shown at numerous galleries throughout the Boston area including the Mercury Gallery, C Duell Arts, Copley Society of Art (CoSo), Kingston Gallery, Lincoln Arts Project, Fourth Wall Project, McGladrey Gallery,
Robert's 2D and 3D constructions incorporate elements of the urban landscape, typography, topography and architecture. Many of his pieces straddle the line between a structure being torn down and a structure being erected. He likes to think of his work as a 21st century archeological dig where decades of imagery and information accumulates and deteriorates at various stages of recognition. Robert combines layers of paint, found and created textures, screenprinted patterns, digital elements and three dimensional structures to create works that evoke the feeling of crumbling walls, discarded billboards and old warehouses.
North Light Books recently profiled Robert in the book Art Revolution: Alternative Approaches for Fine Artists and Illustrators as well as The Artists Pulse: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed. In both publications he has numerous pieces featured as well as a step by step documentation of the creation of one of his constructions. Since 2007 Robert has been an adjunct instructor in the Illustration department at Massart.
