Art historian Ben Street will be holding a lecture about the Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens, in honour of Inga Krymskaya's exhibition launch in the UK.

Krymskaya’s project, 3045 Variations on the Feast of Venus brings the essence of the 17th century Baroque tradition of remaking paintings into the contemporary art sphere - a theme that Ben Street will focus on in this introductory lecture.

As well as Street’s lecture, Krymskaya will be showing six variations - #1, #5, and #11, #17, #21 and #22 – which will be exhibited until Wednesday 16 December. The Russian-born Dutch artist, will be arriving straight from Scope Miami Beach 2015 (01 - 06th December) in order to personally present the works from her collection.

Completing over 80 Variations of Rubens' painting, Kymskaya developed a fascination for its universal theme of love, spirituality and the remaking of artworks. The Variations project has also been opened to artists globally with the aim to encourage a wide variety of creatives to use all kind of mediums to collaborate and share their own interpretations – something that was common practice in early 17th century Antwerp, but no longer is today.

Krymskaya will also explain the inspiration behind her art in more detail on the evening of the 10th.

Speaking of the upcoming exhibition and working with Ben Street, Krymskaya said: “It is such a pleasure to be doing this with Ben Street. His initial words, passion and insightfulness were the spark for me to begin re-working the classic Rubens piece.

Ben and I are looking forward to inviting visitors to revisit Rubens and specifically The Feast of Venus.”

Inga Krymskaya’s three variations will be exhibited at Hay Hill Gallery until Wednesday 16 December. The launch night is a private, invite-only event taking place on Thursday 10 December. To RSVP please contact events@curzonpr.com.
