This event forms part of The White Building’s ‘Happening’ series and is the second in this year’s programme.
New York-based artist Clifford Owens’ ongoing project Anthology seeks to explore, address and imagine a history of black performance art. In 2011 at MoMA PS1 he presented 26 performance ‘scores’ from a trans-generational group of African-American artists. These scores (short sets of instructions) range from the ultra-specific to the abstract. For each, Owens acts as a conduit for the artists’ proposals, offering himself as an interlocutor between the artist and the audience.
We are proud to present the artist’s first performance in London, in advance of Owens’ new major solo exhibition at Cornerhouse, Manchester in May 2014.
The White Building will host this special performance of scores selected by the artist.
