Presented by Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair returns to London’s King’s Cross for its summer London edition with a vibrant programme that includes exciting features, guest exhibitions, installations, charity collaborations and DJs. Featuring Flying Leaps, Art on a Postcard, Guest Artist Alison Jackson, DJ Sets, Hand-Poked Tattoos plus 110 Incredible Emerging Art Stars.

The Other Art Fair is a global gathering of creative thinkers, game changers and pleasure seekers sharing emerging talent and unforgettable experiences. The artist-led fair combines boundary-pushing yet always affordable artworks with immersive installations, performances and a few curious encounters.  The result is an inspiring, evocative, inclusive and fun art fair experience that reframes art.

The fair is one of the most exciting showcases for independent artists and an unmissable highlight for London each summer, offering astute collectors and those discovering art for the first time the chance to buy work directly from the next generation of creators.

The summer fair will showcase 110 game changing artists, hand-picked by the London selection committee which includes Ocki Magill (Founder, Blue Shop Cottage Gallery), Laura O’Hare (Co-founder and Director of Visual Arts Association), Shirley-Ann O’Neill (Co-founder and Director of Visual Arts Association) and Gemma Peppé (Founder and Director of Art on a Postcard).

For this edition, over half of the exhibiting artists identify as female, helping to counter the gender imbalances prevalent in the art world.

New works will be on show by super well-known illustrator Hannah Gilson, she has worked with the likes of House of Hackney, ES Magazine, Liberty and Anthropologie. G Sing B who is also well known for his hyper-realistic drawings of celebrities and the rich and famous, will also feature. His out-of-this world renderings push realism to its ultimate limits, and have garnered him a significant Instagram following of over 100K.  Artist duo Phillips-Walmsley will present new works, they have previously been commissioned to design and install large-scale public artworks by the Southbank Centre, Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Izzy Khan, also joins the line-up, known for her incredibly detailed cityscapes inspired by her various childhood homes across the world, including Saudi Arabia and Alabama. She recently hosted a very successful pop up at John Lewis and is the perfect artist for global city lovers. Architect turned artist Will Atkins a.k.a Make Relief will exhibit his dynamic sculptures made from cork, recycled plastic and resin, along with Sorcha Bridge who celebrates female identifying performers across theatre, music and more within her photography. Her works are hand finished with beautiful gold leaf and neon. James D Wilson, a graphic designer turned artist who creates contemporary constructivism inspired by the 50s and 60s artists who defined the original movement will feature, as well as Black British artist Yazmine Bonheur, whose beautiful and meaningful work engages with black lives and the displacement of black bodies in the African and Caribbean diaspora, exploring queer lives, morality and surrealism.

Features include:

Alison Jackson presents: Strike a Pose with the Queen

BAFTA Award winning artist and photographer Alison Jackson joins the line up as this year’s Guest Artist and presents ‘Strike a Pose with The Queen’, an exclusive live installation photobooth personally hosted by Alison Jackson and the actress who proudly plays her Queen. Alison Jackson will personally take and sign the photograph, leaving each visitor with an invaluable and personal artwork to take home for just £35. The Queen will be present during the Private View: Thursday 30th of June from 6-8pm.

Jackson is known for her provocative and humorous work exploring the cult of celebrity, and raising questions about the manufacturing of public image through sculpture and photography. She depicts the rich and famous doing things in private using cleverly styled lookalikes and life like sculptures.

ART ON A POSTCARD SUMMER AUCTION 2022

Art on a Postcard will be exhibiting another impressive line-up of postcard-sized masterpieces which include works by the doyenne of performance art Marina Abramović, National Portrait Gallery BP Portrait Award-winner Ishbel Myerscough, along-side emerging artists such as Jade MontserratTosin Kalejaye and Ruairi Fallon. Take home an original mini-masterpiece by a highly collectible artist with bidding starting at just £50. All proceeds to the Hepatitis C Trust towards its campaign to eradicate hepatitis C in the UK by the year 2030.

EYECATCHING INSTALLATION BY FLYING LEAPS AND UNCLE

The Flying Leaps poster project began in June 2016, the day of the UK Brexit referendum, with a poster by art and activist duo kennardphillipps. Since then, more than fifty works by artists, critical cartoonists, photographers and visual activists have appeared on streets in towns and cities across the UK.

Continuing their mission to introduce fresh voices into the ‘visual conversations’ that echo around our cities, Flying Leaps and UNCLE will wrap the fair perimeter of The Other Art Fair’s  July 2022 London Edition with their signed, limited-edition posters created by both emergent and established practitioners including: Magda Archer, Dr. D, Jeremy Deller, Tim Fishlock, Marcus Harvey, Benjamin Irritant, Heath Kane, Hayden Kays, Sarah Maple, Robert Montgomery, Simon Robert, Dolores de Sade, Sarah Staton, Mark Titchner, Mark Wallinger and many more.

The thought-provoking spectacle will bring some public art and a little political provocation to King’s Cross West Handyside Canopy, and remain public and free for all to view!

NEW FUTURES ARTISTS

As part of The Other Art Fair’s continued mission to break down traditional barriers of the contemporary art world, New Futures is designed to help launch the careers of emerging artists through initiatives that include free exhibition space at the fairs and art mentorship. Chosen by Fair Founder Ryan Stanier, the winners of this year’s summer London edition of The Other Art Fair in Partnership with Central Saint Martins and the Graduate Art Prize are Jennifer Jones and Losel Yauch. Jennifer Jones is recognised for her artistry within Fine Art and Textiles. Her booth will explore sci-fi and other-worldly themes, providing visitors with an experience of comfort and domesticity through her textile meets tech installation. Tibetan artist Losel Yauch resides in London following her childhood spent in New York. She takes inspiration from the relationship between conflict and creativity. A lot of her former work explored the occupation of Tibet, more recently colour and composition has proceeded subject matter. Her booth will feature a selection of vibrant and collectable pieces.

LIVE TATTOOING AND DJ SETS

Charlotte Lachaussee AKA Sticks Not Stones is back with her incredible hand poke tattoos. What better place to get a tattoo than in the middle of an art event, surrounded by inspiring artists and artworks! Tattoos start from £150 and designs will be from a flash sheet. First come, first serve!

The fair’s exhibiting artists go beyond just the visual arts. There will be DJ sets every night from Thursday to Saturday from Hannah Lamb, Lora and Aleksandir.

Hailed as ‘the future of art’ by The Guardian, The Other Art Fair will delight and inspire visitors with its diverse and immersive programme that has previously included interactive theatre, taxidermy classes, immersive dining, charity collaborations, guest artist installations, workshops, and a colourful line-up of renowned Guest Artists.
