Rye Creative Centre presents a solo exhibition of paintings by emerging artist Jenny Edbrooke.

Following her sell out debut show ‘Floratopia’ in Summer 2015, Jenny is back with more shiny fantasies which explore metaphysics alongside neo-feminism. These seductive works stay true to their political and spiritual roots whilst embracing kitsch with a self-ridiculing dash of humour and a hint of pop art sexiness.

Bursting with colour, light and simple radiance this new collection of work is at first glance the polar opposite of the dark, weighty and complex subject of the ‘cycles’ that inspired Edbrooke’s ‘The Cycles That Bind Us’ series but retaining her iconic use of dried flowers and resin, Edbrooke continues on her quest to glorify womanhood and all things female.

Edbrooke’s new delicate but intense watercolour paintings are a celebration of the Pagan festival of Litha, more commonly known as Summer Solstice, which marks the longest, lightest day of the year. In honouring the midsummer blooms and blossoms that the abundance of summer sunshine brings, Edbrooke continues on her mission to celebrate the female body and again draws parallels between the cycle of the seasons and each phase of the complete menstrual cycle. With all its varied and rich displays of crownings, births and bursts The Vagina is glorified as each sensation is delicately depicted. Some loud and powerful, some quietly humming with colour and feeling, some fragile and tender, others more defined, but all perfectly unique. The glossy finish echoes the plethora of sheens that adorn the labia from day to day, moment to moment; remnants of lustful acts, of physical function, or more simply of the mundane.

This promises to be a joyful, humorous and exciting show of new works from this energetic and engaging, rising star.
