Roy Lichtenstein Redux

Categories:

The Final part of our Roy Lichtenstein season, features the best of what has gone before plus new idiosyncratic rarities.

The season has concentrated on personal projects and ephemeral works spanning the five decades of Roy Lichtenstein's career

Pre-pop prints from 'Polemic' issued in 1957 and 1959, plus an enlarged selection of source materials for Lichtenstein's earliest Pop Art Paintings are key to this unique view of Lichtenstein's artistic canon.

Along with newly added silkscreen prints we are happy to highlight the artist's wit with his relatively well known "Paper Plate (1969)" created for Bert Stern's On First store and Paper Hat (1968) for Bill Copley's S.M.S. project.

Others are more personal such as Lichtenstein's cover and sticker design for Dorothy Herzka's (later Dorothy Lichtenstein) book POP ART ONE, and his lithograph for the Frank O'Hara commemorative publication In Memory of my Feelings.

The Roy Lichtenstein season has been designed to offer an intimate insight into an artist who is primarily known for his epic iconic images. On every level it has been one of the gallery's most ambitious undertakings, and thankfully its most successful.
