The Brick Lane Gallery – The Annexe
is pleased to present a new body of work by Taiwanese artist Kai-Hsing Huang for her debut London solo exhibition entitled Lucky Star.

Featuring a series of abstract paintings, Kai-Hsing's distinctively expressionist style with subtle bursts of colour, are formulated by the artist's experiences and sensitivities. Kai-Hsing Huang paints from her mind, her soul, and her senses - her work is inspired by the subtle and finer encounters she comes across daily, developing a sensitive perception to the world around her, whether that be a tangible reality or an intangible fantasy. Taste, touch, smell and thought are formulated in the artist's mind, their harmonious fusion is then released as kinetic energy into ultimately beautiful, lyrical, abstract paintings.

Throughout each painting, a flow of spontaneous colours and textures form visual creations - the subject is not important, as Kai-Hsing has broken down any form of objectivity to pure painting. The allegory lies in the emotional expression.

A sense of optimism is the common characteristic that informs the paintings featured in this exhibition. She appropriately titles it ‘Lucky Star’ in reference to the search for a harmonious self - the artist explains that: Every Crisis contains a favourable turn; every turning point carries a chance of renewal. Facing Squarely into the big black hole, tuning your mind into a high frequency of positivity, you will gradually perceive the irreplaceable fortune in every single being’s own Galaxy of life”

Kai-Hsing has participated in numerous art fairs, collective exhibitions, and solo exhibitions in Taipei, Hong Kong and Shanghai. She recently exhibited as part of her first London collective exhibition in March this year at The Brick Lane Gallery, and we are honored to have Kai-Hsing Huang exhibit with us again for her first London solo show this June.

The opening of Lucky Star will feature a special performance by Finnish Composer & Pianist Antti Myllyoja. Antii Myllyoja will be premiering his composition ‘For people who have a big hole in life’ a new piece, composed especially for this exhibition, and based on Kai-Hsing’s painting of the same name. The juxtaposition of the performance ‘For people who have a big hole in life’ and the exhibition’ Lucky Star’ forms a dialogue between two different mediums of art, as well as two different sides of the same concept. With one coming from a darker side, and the other from bright optimism, the artists are experimenting in hopes that they reach the same place in the end.

Lucky Star will take place between the 4th and 17th June 2013. You are warmly invited to celebrate with the artist on Thursday 6th June between 6pm-8.30pm with opening performance by Antti Mylloyoja at 7pm.
