WABI‑SABI brings together the work of five emerging Sixth‑Form artists in a contemplative investigation of Japanese aesthetic philosophy. Drawing on the wabi‑sabi worldview—beauty found in imperfection, transience, and quiet restraint—the show unfolds through seven interconnected principles.

Five are interpreted through paintings by the participating artists:

Aretha Reeve‑Chen - Shibumi (understated elegance)
Gioia Yiu - Shizen (naturalness)
Yaroslava Lukianchuk - Kanso (simplicity)
Kimberley Condict - Fukinsei (asymmetry)
Cherry Yuen - Datsuzoku (freedom from convention)

Two additional principles shape the curatorial structure of the exhibition itself:

Yūgen, suggesting a subtle depth and quiet mystery, informs the spatial rhythm of the gallery and the relationship between the works.
Seijaku, meaning tranquility, is expressed through a quiet sake‑tasting offered during the opening reception, extending the experience beyond the visual into a shared moment of reflection.

Developed as a mentored project, the exhibition asks how these timeless ideas can resonate within contemporary practice. Through restraint, asymmetry and silence, the works invite viewers to slow down and encounter beauty in its most understated forms.
