Griffin Gallery is delighted to present In Residence, a celebration of 18 international up-and-coming artists doing innovative and unusual things with paint. Exhibiting artists include Bea Haines who used her great uncle’s ashes to create a pigment, Mike Ballard who explodes paint cans onto canvas, Tom Platt who uses an electric chainsaw to create sculptural paintings, Corrie Baldalf who painted at 230 square metre gold circle on top of the Television Centre in White City and Piers Secunda who meticulously sculpts delicate, fragile sculptures out of hardened industrial floor paint.

The 18 highly talented artists have all undertaken a residency at Griffin Gallery in the past two years. The Griffin Residency Programme offers studio space, materials from leading painting brands and specialist expertise from onsite chemists working in the Colart Laboratory next to the studios. The residency highlights the potential of emerging artists to experiment with materials and create exceptional work, free of the financial constraints imposed on artists living in London.

The residency is a unique opportunity for an emerging artist to explore materials and develop new work, made possible because of the support from Colart and the studios’ proximity to the Laboratory.
