A room within which the computer can control the existence of matter*, (2017), is an interactive online film by Rowena Harris, and the first commision of a 4 part project curated by James Irwin for the Space In Between website and Instagram feed. An essay by New York based artist and writer, Nicholas O’Brien has been especially commissioned to accompany the work.

Rowena Harris new online video work considers the potentiality of digital experience in reforming
how we understand our own human body. It combines research on ‘corporeal schema’; embodiment within virtual reality; and tactics of contemporary virtual phantom limb therapy.

Over the course of four month long web-residencies on the SIB website and Instagram feed, James Irwin’s curatorial project SuperHumanCorporation: An Exploration of Digital Nature will map out what could be seen as a ‘materiality’ of the Internet.

By commissioning a series of  web-based moving image and sound works, partnered by new online texts exploring the topic of digital materiality, the programme aims to create a set of signposts pointing to a digital nature; within the esoteric structures of the Internet, what can we hold onto as being inherently ‘human’?
