ODYSSEY : Paintings by David Byers Brown

City:

Categories:

These paintings are the results of a long term project to examine the nature of reality through Western representational art styles; particularly figures that come straight from the imagination without a present reference. They take landscapes painted from life on the Greek island of Ithaca and populate them with figures that suggest themselves, to illustrate scenes from Homer's Odyssey.

David Byers Brown worked for more than 16 years as a storyboard artist, animator, designer and director before becoming a senior lecturer in Computer Animation & Special Effects at the University of Kent at Canterbury. He has worked for many major film studios including Disney and Warner Bros. and was Senior Computer Graphics Animator for Industrial Light & Magic from 1994 to 1999. Films he has worked on include Casper the Friendly Ghost; Dragonheart; 101 Dalmatians; Lost World; Flubber and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? David has an MA in Fine Arts from the University of Oxford and has exhibited paintings in England, Scotland and the USA.
