SIB is delighted to present a solo show of new work by Matt Ager. This will be Ager’s second solo exhibition at the gallery.

Ager’s practice is focused on the energy found in subtleties present between the interaction of people and objects. He navigates the process of making work by framing, editing and omitting as well as employing a more labor-intensive sculptural skill set.  Selecting often raw and found materials which have a specific hook, history or cultural reference is key. These form a starting point, from which a process of reworking, fitting, reframing and collaging can evolve.

Ager approaches the relationship to the materials he uses in an instinctive way. Materials such as twinwall, polycarbonate, rubber and lino are manipulated and then utilized articulately.  This everyday appearance, in some instances domestic or mundane, is transubstantiated to become a measure for the interventions. Piecing together these disjointed fragments the work creates an openness and flexibility outside of the usual relations we have in every-day habitable life with objects. Through his work Ager draws out the network of relations we have with objects where they would normally recede from our consciousness.
