Erskine, Hall & Coe is pleased to present an exhibition of exquisitely thrown works in porcelain, stoneware and earthenware by Lucie Rie (1902-1995).  This will be open from the 27th of June through the 20th of July.

Lucie Rie is one of the greatest potters of 20th century Britain.  Born in Vienna, she moved to London in 1938 and became internationally renowned for her vases and bowls.  Her work was often exhibited on its own or alongside that of Hans Coper throughout the United States and Europe.  Rie was the recipient of many awards, including an OBE in 1968, an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art in 1969, a CBE in 1981 and a Damehood in 1991.

The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, the Victoria & Albert Museum as well as museums throughout Japan held major retrospective exhibitions of her work following her death.

'Art alive is always modern, no matter how old or young.  Art-theories have no meaning for me, beauty has.  This is all my philosophy.’ –Lucie Rie, 1950

This exhibition consists of works that span over six decades, from rare pieces made in Vienna in the early 1930s to beautiful bowls made in Rie’s Albion Mews studio in London in the late 1980s.  It features twenty works and will be fully illustrated on our website on the day it opens.  It will be viewable Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 6pm and free to attend.
