LANDSCAPE; RURAL VS URBAN explores the contrast between our different surroundings. From classical to contemporary interpretations of skylines, urban settings, mountain cliffs, lakes and countryside views, the exhibition offers a new insight to our perception of landscapes and how we become part of them.

Isabelle Bacher shows us the amazing, beautiful and powerful forces that have created the magnificent nature of the Arctic. The immensity of lonely fjords, the breathtaking light and the aesthetic glaciers of the Far North are magical to her and she transmits this magic. She loves the abstract and intimate views of the natural world. Her photographic work represents her personal perception of the landscape. Light is seen as the main subject in combination with the Arctic Landscape. Through this series, she has attempted to register the calm that the eyes could see and the body could feel.

Each image holds secrets. Secrets that unravel themselves each time you look. Katrina McGettigan grew up in Methven a small ski town at the foot of the Southern Alps and it is the fond memories of her childhood here that draw on the subject choice for the works she presents in this exhibition. Her artworks feature predominantly local scenes that are a proud part of her heritage. Her inspiration comes from the beautiful and diverse landscapes of the Canterbury region and South Island holiday spots, which she never tires of visiting.

You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of LANDSCAPE; RURAL VS URBAN at The Brick Lane Gallery – The Annexe open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 13th April 2016.
