DOLPH is an artist-run visual arts project based in Streatham Hill. At DOLPH we set a brief. The artist’s objective is to frame an exhibition that contextualises the interests and concerns driving their practice. How they do this is up to them. They set the terms. They are their own curators.

In November, Jordan Baseman will move into the DOLPH space and present 2 22 92, a 120 minute unedited interview with twin brothers Lee and Dee Smith. Lee Smith began building his felled-timber Mansion in Wapiti, Wyoming, in 1979. In April 1992, he fell twelve feet onto the roof of one of the lower sections of the Mansion. He struck his head and lay unconscious for two days. Lee bled out and died.

Locally known as The Crazy House and said to be haunted by the ghost of Lee Smith, The Mansion remains unfinished, literally as Lee left it. The interview was recorded two months prior to Lee Smith’s death, was never used, nor broadcast, languishing in the Wyoming State Archives in Cheyenne, Wyoming for the past 24 years. 2 22 92 focuses on ideas of the landscape and our environment in general. At times very funny, wild and informal, the recording is a moving discussion with a pioneer: a maverick, unlicensed architect and his twin brother, a respected painter. 2 22 92 will be presented on a continuous cycle, in a pitch black space.

The exhibition will launch with a Private View on Wednesday 16 November from 6pm. The artist will also be in conversation with the directors of DOLPH about his response to the brief on Wednesday 23 November from 7pm.
