Her 81 Paces - New works by Anna Jung Seo

Categories:

Artist, Anna Jung Seo, was visited by her elderly mother. Due to her reduced mobility she remained inside for most of the 6 weeks of her stay. In order to keep herself agile, she would exercise by walking through the L shaped corridor in her daughter’s flat.

This exhibition shows works that Anna Jung Seo has created based upon memories and observational drawings produced during the stay. The works reflect wider recollections of relationships within the family. The artist examines both her mother’s presence and absence within the same space.

Intrigued by her mother’s daily exercise Seo explores the repetition and accumulation which gives structure to her mother’s life. The effect she achieves through scrim and paper onto the second surface conveys the multiple impacts that events and incidents would have on the complex family structure.
