Rina Horikawa
(b. 1998, Hokkaido, Japan)

I absorb all of my experiences.

Light and darkness, including trauma and reconstruct them through painting.

My time working as a nurse, where I was often confronted with death, made me deeply aware of life itself.

To express sensations that cannot be contained within reality, I work through a surrealist visual language.

Flowers appear repeatedly as a central motif, symbolising both fragility and cycles, echoing the nature of life.

My practice is shaped through encounters with people I have met along the way. It is not a solitary expression, but something that emerges through connection with others.

Living London has exposed me to different cultures, landscapes, and values, allowing me to understand the meaning of continuous change and evolution.

“FLOW” represents a process in which all of these experiences pass through me, transform, and continue to move forward. It marks a point in the present, while also serving as a passage toward what is yet to come.
