The Brick Lane Gallery is thrilled to present a celebration of the medium of painting with its new exhibition, CONTEMPORARY PAINTING. This show will examine the art of painting in its numerous forms, ranging from large scale canvas’ with bold colours and abstract strokes, to intricate pieces making use of traditional painting techniques. The artists exhibiting have interpreted their own experiences and responded to social issues, thus creating works which use contemporary painting as a vessel for their own perception. In turn, the exhibition offers a personal yet relevant commentary of the modern landscape – proving that Contemporary Painting is an important tool for artistic expression.

One of the artists exhibiting is John Hatfield who often paints without brushes and tilting canvases that are wet with paint, then works what’s left into a human form. His works are painted quickly, instinctively and with no planning; which is probably why they retain their fresh, guttural appeal. The comment he usually gets from ordinary people is: “I don’t like art, but I like your paintings”- which he takes as the highest praise. Another artist in this exhibition is Christopher Langley. His paintings reflect his flirtation with abstract expressionism such as ‘Rhossili mewn Glas’; (Rhossili in Blue) & Award winning ‘Newport Beach in Pink’, evolving through a physical process of layering and revealing. Christopher produced two national Welsh shows and has exhibited in galleries in Cardiff, London and New York, where he personally presented work. His work features in private and corporate collections worldwide and his website has achieved a page one Google ranking for 'Welsh Artist'. He is a committee member of the South Wales Art Society and regularly contributes to critique and exhibition events In addition he is resident artist in a number of premier public buildings in South Wales.

You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of CONTEMPORARY PAINTING at The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 12th October 2016.
