Artes Mundi 8 Prize and Exhibition

The UK’s most political and largest international art prize Artes Mundi 8 returns in 2018, opening its shortlist exhibition at National Museum Cardiff this October. The shortlisted artists are competing for the £40,000 prize, and include Cannes Palme d’Or winner Apichatpong Weerasethakul, CitizenFour cinematographer Trevor Paglen, Nigerian installation artist Otobong Nkanga, Moroccan filmmaker Bouchra Khalili, and Egyptian artist Anna Boghiguian. The prize has previously been awarded to some of the world’s most exciting and politically-charged artists including Theaster Gates, Teresa Margolles and Kara Walker. 2016 winner was John Akomfrah who won with Auto da Fe, a video installation which commented on historical significance of global migration. The winner of the 8th Artes Mundi Prize will be announced on 24th January 2019.
