The Brick Lane Gallery is proud to present the third ART IN MIND group show for 2014. This exhibition brings together a collection of talented international and UK based contemporary artists in a show that bursts with colour and vibrancy through the use of collage, paint, and textured materials. With a spectrum of influences including popular culture, abstraction, Japanese culture, nature, travel, and the process of art itself, these inspiring artists working across such differing mediums, are brought together in an eclectic exhibition that will have something to interest every visitor.

We would therefore like to warmly invite you to join us for the opening on Wednesday 19th February 6pm – 8.30pm where you will have the opportunity to meet our talented artists.

FEATURED ARTISTS:

Italian born artist ANDY FLUON takes inspiration from traditional Italian arts as well as English popular culture and merges them. Based on the use of fluorescent acrylic colours, Fluon “re-photographs” music, cinema, fashion, art and cartoons icons in a context of personal memories where the fluorescence underlines the vital centre of the painting. His paintings do not a provoke reaction to the past, but instead respectfully re-position the past into the present.

BRIGIT SAUER cleverly merges object and abstraction, where cartographic designs take shape from unreadable patterns. Her techniques have successively moved between the areas of printmaking, painting, photography and film: etchings coupled with laser prints from digital photographs, paintings in oil and acrylics, the use of varnish and epoxy resins, and collage.

EMMA-JANE CROWN uses the power of the process as the subject matter to create her work. Crown challenges the changing pace and pattern of the mind, focusing on the rhythm of the process more than the result. Not asking any questions, and not knowing what will happen.

LILY GREENWOOD from Manchester is influenced by eighteenth century Japanese colour palettes, and the beautiful patterns employed in kimono designs, where she has developed a method of using reproductions of her own paintings as collage material on the canvas. Greenwood continuously adds to her own library of 'source' paintings, then cuts and repaints and builds them into a finished piece.

Although from the UK, MARY GRUNDY references her many travels around the world in her art. Inspired by the sensuous rich colours and bold distinctive settings of Italy and Morocco.

Self-taught artist NICOLA HYSLOP seeks inspiration from everything: from colour, textiles, nature, and people. Her 'Animal Magic' collection is for the fun at heart. Hyslop’s interpretations of nature add a little humour and light art and reflect our inner youth.

ROLYN PEREZ, originally from Cuba, uses a variety of different media to communicate her stories. By experimenting with aleatoric processes, Perez touches various overlapping themes and strategies. Several reoccurring subject matter can be recognised, such as the relation with popular culture and media, working with repetition, provocation, and the investigation of expectations.

Born in Bern, Switzerland, RUPPEN uses the painting materials and their specific properties to determine the pace of production. During an experimental practice, many accidents occur on the canvas but RUPPEN turns these mistakes as into possibilities, solutions, or challenges.

From the Netherlands we have WOUT KOLE who's dark and atmospheric paintings create a magical realism. Kole uses the lack of human presence to give the work a deserted, spooky appeal with a lot of room to “dream away”.
