Land & Sea Exhibition by Gary Hawkes

Lichfield born photographer Gary Hawkes studied Fine Art at Winchester School of Art initially experimenting with canvas and oil paint he found himself increasingly immersed in the world of photography.  Winchester’s focus on conceptualism served to foster this interest further, resulting in Gary experimenting with a variety of production processes in order to explore his key interest: capturing beauty in its purest form.  It is this concept which informs much of Gary’s present body of work in which the simplicity of the images belies the complex processes and techniques employed.

The photographs, full of texture, movement and light perfectly capture the haunting beauty and innate strength of this remarkable landscape. The eye is irresistibly drawn to the fluidity of the oceans, the rough surface of the rock, the chaotic and tumultuous sky.  Indeed, the enormity and strident beauty of the sky plays a vital role in creating an awe inspiring backdrop upon which to depict the fragile resilience of nature.
