Referencing the long and varied history of ceramics as well as contemporary examples, this four-week course introduces participants to a variety of hand building and finishing techniques. Below is a rough outline of what you can expect from each of the sessions:
Week One – Coiling:
Introduction to clay and clay bodies, clay preparation, pinching, coiling, adapting coiled forms;
Week Two – Slab building:
Introduction to tools and texture, using slabs to build angular, curved and adapted forms as well as flat work;
Week Three – Self-Directed: Introduction to slips, glazing and firing. Beginning to work on self-directed projects;
Week Four – Glazing and Finishing techniques:
Pouring, dipping, painting. Concluding self-directed projects.

– Maximum of 10 participants
Class sizes are limited to ensure individual attention, access to equipment, and the opportunity for discussion so booking is essential.
