Thorsten Baensch presents his solo-exhibition Always on the move, slowly but steadily and without haste. A part of the way: together with Thorsten Baensch, at Sea Foundation in Tilburg. The German artist shows a series of four landscape paintings, next to artist books made in collaboration with artists, graphic designers, and other makers. He also presents his book VON-ORT-ZU-ORT. With his practice, Baensch joins the theme of No hurry, one of the twelve chapters from the programme on art and sustainability of the art organisation from Tilburg. Always on the move [...] is on show from May 26 - July 13.

Always on the move, slowly but steadily and without haste

Thorsten Baensch is never in a hurry. His artist practice consists of a process of collaborating, collecting, selecting, writing, curating, creating, designing and binding. A book lives and breathes with its time and reader. Baensch has been working on his collection of unique books for years. These one of a kind works are part of a continual attempt to document the passing of time. Besides his artist books, his colorful and contemplative landscape paintings are an invitation to discover one’s own imagination. This exhibition offers insight into Baensch’s mind as a painter, bookmaker, traveller and communicator.

Fold #04 on No hurry

Since 2020, SEA Foundation has been working with a programme that unfolds itself along 12 chapters called folds. In its own way, each fold relates to art and sustainability, and offers possible perspectives for art and life in the future. No hurry is a natural expression for the working method of Thorsten Baensch. He founded and developed his publishing house Bartleby & Co in a slow fashion, and as such made room for his three professional passions: bookselling, bookmaking and art. Making artist books is then a perfect example for alternative ways of publishing, where working together with other ‘experts’ takes center stage. Baensch’s editions are an homage to the human need to contemplate.

Other Info:

SEA Foundation is an artist initiative. Throughout the years, SEA Foundation has become synonymous for exhibitions, residencies and publications. SEA Foundation’s international Artist-in-Residence and public programme for professional artists, curators and writers consider practice support and international exchanges. The foundation momentarily also offers living and working spaces to Ukrainian artists and curators.

SEA Foundation works with themes that address sustainability, and makes this visible through contemporary art that interprets and highlights the care for our planet and humanity through different angles. With their work, artists show how our behaviour, regarding attention to detail, is of influence on our experience of happiness, and how these endeavours might facilitate climate distortions.
