Christmas Party, a solo exhibition by Andrea Tagliapietra, curated by Silvio Pasqualini, the Venice Blue Gallery' owner. More than just a collection of artworks, this project weaves a visual narrative that delves into the complexities of human nature and the sense of isolation that can surface during moments of collective celebration.

Drawing inspiration from James Joyce's words, “First we feel, then we fall,” Tagliapietra crafts his creations through a process that begins with observation and evolves into total immersion. A fleeting perception—be it a gesture, a face, or a situation—ignites a creative journey that culminates in large- and medium-scale canvases, each designed to captivate and provoke thought.

A Play of Contrasts
The imagery of Christmas Party bridges two realms: children, captured in playful and masked moments, embody a sense of unbridled joy and innocence. In stark contrast, adults are portrayed on symbolic “rafts of salvation,” metaphors for an emotional drift that echoes Géricault’s Raft of the Medusa. This tension between celebration and introspection forms the backbone of a narrative that lays bare the contradictions of the human condition.

Materiality and Roots
Tagliapietra's work transcends anatomical representation, focusing instead on the density of material. Employing oil, spray paint, and natural elements, the artist creates vibrant surfaces where the act of painting becomes a means to uncover the hidden and the unspoken. His often-dissonant color palette draws inspiration from Burano, the island he calls home, and finds a poignant tribute in Il Generale—the sole face in the exhibition. This character, inspired by a war veteran known for marching through Burano’s streets giving imaginary orders, symbolizes a ritual suspended between festivity and madness.

A Meditative Journey
Christmas Party is more than an exhibition; it is an invitation to look beyond social masks and rediscover the authenticity often concealed behind appearances. Through a harmonious blend of earthly, marine, and transcendent energies, Tagliapietra leads viewers on a journey that intertwines introspection and celebration, offering a space to reflect on the paradoxes of human nature

Artist ( Description ):

Andrea Tagliapietra was born in Venice in 1976 and lives and works in Burano. The Venetian island, chosen as his home, provides a wealth of inspiration and stimuli for the artist’s personal exploration. According to Tagliapietra, “Chaos can be found everywhere, but the poetry of this place is unique.” Currently, the forms of expression embraced by the artist range from painting to sculpture, with frequent forays into performance and video art. www.andreatagliapietra.it
