Wieland Payer

Biotope
Pastels, graphics and objects
18 May to 13 July 2019

We invite you and your friends to Erfurt for the opening of the exhibition as part of the Long Night of Museums on May 17 at 8 pm. The artist will be present.

Wieland Payer incorporates the almost obsolete technique of pastel painting from the niches of art history and presents it to us in new splendor. He succeeds through its novel application to large format, a brilliant mastery and careful development of the technique, through artistic virtuosity and his sense for fascinating topics.

The Caucasus, the Alps, Iceland, - Wieland Payer takes expedition, observes nature and landscapes, painstakingly sketches and then connects the observed with various phenomena in the studio to form a great narrative that has been made into a picture. His method is reminiscent of Alexander von Humboldt's point of view, which concluded from millions of individual observations and measurements on the nature of the cosmos, the world as a whole. In contrast to Humboldt's times, the visible world today is largely researched and measured. Nonetheless, the number of open questions has increased, and research is gathering more and more information. The world as an increasingly complex, surprising and fascinating entity - Wieland Payer's pastels pour this parable into a great artistic form.
