Beauty can be wild, intelligent, unruly, and deeply serious all at once. It can glow like fire, thicken like memory, slip between humor and danger, and still remain fully alive as painting. Leonard Jazwiecki’s Pretty Serious Abstraction: Delight Is Indie Soul, on view from June 15 to August 15, 2026 at https://www.exhibizone.com/pretty-serious-abstraction-exhibition, brings together large-format oil paintings that defend pleasure, intensity, and visual seduction as forces of genuine artistic depth.

Across this exhibition, oil paint does not sit quietly on canvas. It rises, folds, smears, shines, drags, pools, and pushes forward with physical insistence. Works such as Between The Folds, Jelly, Rain, and Lush Life reveal Jazwiecki’s fascination with paint as matter, sensation, and event. Their surfaces appear close, tactile, and almost bodily, with glossy passages, thick ridges, and layered gestures that invite the viewer to feel the movement of the brush as much as the image itself.

The exhibition’s emotional temperature shifts from fire to turbulence, from softness to impact. In Can’t Explain, I Just Want To Be The Flame In Your Heart, and Djinn At Play, warm golds, oranges, and browns create an atmosphere of heat, combustion, and restless vitality. In contrast, Blue Blew By, Live Action Thriller, and Catastrophe Originale bring cooler blues, blacks, metallic flashes, and darker gestural energy into the field, suggesting friction, speed, and depth without resolving into fixed representation.

Jazwiecki’s titles are essential to the exhibition’s pulse. They are humorous, musical, sensual, mythic, and emotionally charged. Just A Flesh Wound, Her Sanctuary, Feisty, Fenrir Takes The Hand Of Tyr, and You Are Only Coming Through In Waves do not explain the paintings, but they open doors into their mood. They make space for play, desire, vulnerability, myth, and private association, while allowing abstraction to remain free.

This freedom is central to Jazwiecki’s artistic position. Born in Lackawanna, New York, and shaped by decades of drawing, painting, teaching, writing, curatorial work, and lived experience, he challenges the assumption that “pretty” weakens serious art. Here, beauty is not decorative weakness. It is courage. It is evidence of appetite, survival, experimentation, and trust in instinct.

Pretty Serious Abstraction asks viewers to look closely, without embarrassment and without hierarchy. These paintings are lush, tough, tender, strange, and proud.
