Veda Kagabo: Weathered into Grace — Paintings of Resonance, Drift, and Becoming
Sometimes color behaves like memory, sometimes texture leans toward emotion, and sometimes a canvas becomes not a surface but a passage. Weathered into Grace by Veda Kagabo, presented from November 28, 2025, to January 28, 2026, invites viewers into that passage, where the forces shaping the inner world emerge as luminous, shifting, and alive. The exhibition is now accessible through the smart online gallery at Exhibizone: https://www.exhibizone.com/weathered-into-grace-exhibition.
Across these fifteen paintings, Veda Kagabo reveals a language of movement and depth that feels both instinctive and elemental. Vertical textures descend like rain or ascend like rising air, depending on the viewer’s orientation. In works filled with sienna, rust, and warm gold, a dark diagonal line drifts gently across the surface, suggesting the delicate geometry we cling to during moments of imbalance. Elsewhere, expansive clouds of rose, white, and magenta bloom into one another, dissolving edges the way emotions often blur before they settle. Kagabo allows color to collide and soften until it resembles both sky and water, reflection and dissolution.
Radiant bursts of yellow or white appear at the center of several pieces, shaped like stars or energetic pulses, anchoring the surrounding turbulence. Cooler compositions draw viewers into cascades of blue and white, falling like frozen light or forming textures reminiscent of crystallized minerals. In contrast, paintings where cobalt, orange, and red intertwine generate zones of friction and release, capturing the instant when chaos reshapes into clarity.
These surfaces, weathered and rebuilt through layering, scraping, and diffusion, mirror the subtle architecture of experience. Kagabo’s fascination with water, chirality, and asymmetrical balance is evident throughout, translating invisible forces into tactile form. Though abstract, many works feel geographic, shaped by pressure, erosion, and quiet reconstruction. They are emotional terrains rather than literal landscapes, refined through the slow work of transformation.
Kagabo’s artistic journey and broader practice can be further explored through his website, Veda Studio Art (https://vedastudio.artcall.org), where his evolving approach to abstraction is deeply rooted in healing and symbolic resonance. His daily studio process and new works can also be followed on Instagram at @vedastudioart, and his professional portfolio is available on Biafarin at http://www.biafarin.com/artist?name=veda-kagabo.
Weathered into Grace unfolds as a meditation on what it means to be shaped over time. Through paintings that move like shifting weather patterns and internal tides, Veda Kagabo offers viewers quiet entry points into reflection, softness, and recalibration. These works do not simply depict transformation, they embody it, revealing how beauty can rise precisely from what life has weathered through.
Artist:
Veda Kagabo is a Rwandan-born visual artist and the creative force behind Veda Studio Art, based in Newark, New Jersey. His abstract paintings are rooted in the emotional and symbolic language of water, using flowing forms, layered textures, and bold, yet meditative color palettes to explore themes of healing, duality, and transformation.
Veda’s work has been exhibited in juried shows throughout the Northeast, including Viewpoints 2025, and is increasingly sought after for public and private spaces that promote well-being, such as hospitals, hotels, and wellness centers. Deeply inspired by the natural world and the concept of chirality (asymmetrical balance), his paintings invite viewers into immersive experiences of calm, introspection, and connection.
