Rising to Ruin, an online international painting exhibition by Kelsey Scharf opens on December 15, 2023, and will continue for two months until February 15, 2024.
Kelsey Scharf art is influenced by the representation of “lived-in” spaces since for years, she has sought to capture the abandoned buildings around her that are demolished, and wiped from history, erasing any record of the lives associated with these spaces. She is intrigued by the haunting records of those who have left their mark in a space. These are the thoughts she regularly considers as she begins a new painting or salvage another damaged brick. Consequently, she continues to depict these “communal blights”; as her work seeks to question the historical and social value of these spaces by studying their decaying remnants.
