Sometimes a painting arrives the way a wave meets the sand, quietly and without insistence, yet carrying a story the world didn’t know it needed. And sometimes imagination steps forward with the clarity of a symbol etched against bright color, asking us to hope differently, to see differently. This is the realm of Peace and Fantasy, Randa Lake’s newest collection — a shimmering intersection where serenity, whimsy, and longing unfold across canvas.

Lake’s path began with the modest joy of coloring books and a single brush dipped into childhood watercolors. Decades later, her practice in acrylics and mixed media holds the same sense of possibility, but now deepened by lived experience: the tenderness of community, the ache of world events, the solace of ocean horizons, the playfulness of surreal encounters. Her work gravitates toward two magnetic forces — peace and imagination — each feeding the other in unexpected ways.

In “Condensation of the Wine Bottles,” rings, textures, and drifting blossoms form a warm meditation on memory’s soft edges. The vibrant turquoise of “Give Peace a Chance” transforms iridescent fragments into a tactile peace sign, asserting hope through material presence. Its counterpart, “No War,” confronts the viewer with bold urgency: painted letters bleeding across a brick wall, a plea made unmistakably human.

Her dreamlike sensibility expands in works such as “Pleasant Dreams,” where a figure in a pink skirt balances atop a luminous crescent moon, suspended above a deep, quiet blue. “Zeraffe” pairs marbled skies with the gentle stance of a zebra and its young, blending surrealism with tender grounding. In “African Sunset,” a tall tree rises through lavender and rose light while a giraffe rests in its branches, as if twilight itself has learned to cradle life.

Lake’s love of shorelines flows through “Meteor Shower,” “The Flower Fields,” “High Tide,” and “The Ocean Sky.” Raised textures mimic sand’s rugged touch, while layered blues, pinks, and dusky violets reveal shifting moods of water and sky. These landscapes offer the viewer a space to breathe — a promise of calm rendered in luminous color.

In contrast, works like “Pyro” and “The Fall Fog” move toward the atmospheric: glowing embers between trees, a crow lifting above a fog-washed stone. Even here, fantasy remains present, reminding us that wonder and shadow often share the same horizon.

Peace and Fantasy invites the viewer into a world shaped by tenderness, imagination, and the quiet persistence of hope. Through shoreline rhythms, surreal visions, and symbolic gestures, Randa Lake paints spaces where the world feels gentler — and where dreams find room to land.

Peace and Fantasy officially opens its doors to viewers from December 8, 2025, to February 8, 2026, presented online through Exhibizone's exhibition space, where the full collection can be experienced at https://www.exhibizone.com/peace-and-fantasy-exhibition. Artist ( Description ):

I began as any child with coloring books, crayons, and a little tin of water colors and one brush. In my late teens, I tried painting landscapes with oils, using knives. 2019, flip cup art was new and easy. My media of choice is acrylics and mixed media on canvas. My concentration is leaning towards surrealism and beachscapes. I lived in a small tourist town in the mountains of San  Diego called Julian. I visited the tiny art gallery and asked how to show my art. I was told to join the Julian Arts Guild. The county approved using the library's community room to exhibit additional art. I was happy to be with outstanding, seasoned artists. I showed my first two amateur paintings. I had used stencils. Covid closed the library a month later. A couple of months after that, I received an email inquiring about my paintings, requesting to purchase them. I was one of two artists who had a sale. I participated in two Julian art shows and exhibited at the newer Julian Art Gallery. I had my first solo exhibition at the Julian Library's Art Gallery in August 2025. I have had a painting on the Red Bluff virtual Art Gallery and a painting on the Las Laguna Art Gallery website. I received an invitation to ship a painting to participate in the Venice, Italy Art Festival. I  had a painting in an art show at the Art on 30th Ashton Art Gallery in San Diego's art district, August 2025 and October 2025. I attended art classes at a local adult school. I have participated in approximately 10 Biafarin and CaFÉ online art competitions. My paintings can rank anywhere from #1 to the middle of the list. The best thing a person can say to me about my art is, "I don't know anything about art, but I like your art."
