Kitschy Cowboy, an international online solo painting exhibition by Magdalene Nelson opens on July 27 and will continue through August 27, 2022.

As an artist, Lauren Magdalene aims to create something that evokes an emotion or feeling and guides the viewer through a narrative or storytelling. She has always been fascinated with storytelling through art, primarily through the lens of animal imagery. In this exhibition, she includes two series and two stand-alone pieces. The first series is an oil painting set titled "The Four Horses Of the Apocolyse" that features the steeds of the biblical figures of Conquest, Famine, War, and Death. Her drawing series "Kitschy Cowboy" captures imagery used thousands of times in art history, that of the cowboy and his or her interaction with animals, in a new light to give viewer a feeling of the tangible motion of man vs beast.

Her works combine delicate lines with negative space to create dynamic snapshots of frantic movement. The story portrayed is the "blink and you'll miss it" action of a rodeo in the American West.

Artist ( Description ):

Lauren “Magdalene” Nelson, born in Wichita Kansas, attended Skagit Valley Community College, Washington State University, and is currently a student at the University of Central Oklahoma. Magdalene’s art is centralized around her passion for animals and is inspired by her time as a horse training apprentice in her youth. While she has an interest in both drawing and painting, her focus is equine oil painting. Her oil paintings strongly emphasize form, line, and color. Magdalene will graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma in December of 2022. She further plans on pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art and eventually becoming a professor.
