Some landscapes are not only seen; they are remembered by the heart before the eye can name them. A lake holding the last color of evening, a snowy river wrapped in blue silence, a mountain touched by sunrise, a field of poppies breathing beneath a vast sky, each scene in Elena Gaevskaya’s solo exhibition carries the quiet intimacy of a place that has become part of the soul. Presented from May 30 to July 30, 2026, Artwork & Presence can be viewed online at https://www.exhibizone.com/artwork-and-presence-exhibition.

Born in the second half of the twentieth century in the former Soviet Union, Elena carries within her life story the experience of change, migration, and reinvention. After moving to Ontario, Canada, with her husband and children at the beginning of the twenty-first century, she eventually answered a long-held dream: to move from sketching as a fashion designer into creating oil paintings on canvas. That decision, simple yet profound, gives this exhibition its emotional center. These works feel like moments reclaimed, visions finally given space to breathe.

The paintings in Artwork & Presence do not shout. They glow, whisper, and linger. In works such as Serenity, Winter Twilight, Golden Lake - Sunset, and Silver Day on Golden Lake, water becomes a mirror for atmosphere and inner stillness. Reflections soften the boundary between land and sky, while the changing light of sunrise, sunset, snow, and mist suggests the quiet passage of time. In Warm Winter and March in Ontario, the cold season appears not harsh, but luminous, filled with blue shadows, white fields, and the tender endurance of nature.

Gaevskaya’s eye is especially attuned to the emotional temperature of a scene. A glowing sun breaking over mountains, a small house near still water, dark trees against a colored sky, a bird crossing a radiant lake, a rabbit seated in a winter clearing, or poppies spreading across a Tuscan field, each image carries a sense of presence that is both visible and hidden. Her landscapes are not merely depictions of places; they are encounters with mood, memory, and quiet truth.

In the Tuscany paintings, warmth enters with golden fields, red poppies, distant hills, and rural houses held beneath expansive skies. These works bring another rhythm to the exhibition, one of travel, recollection, and earthly abundance. Together with her Canadian scenes, they form a visual diary of belonging across landscapes.

Artwork & Presence celebrates Elena Gaevskaya’s devotion to painting as a way of noticing. Through oil color, softened light, and poetic observation, she reminds us that presence can be found in a lake at dusk, a snowy bank, a field in bloom, or the moment an artist finally turns a dream into reality.

Artist ( Description ):

I was born in the 2nd half of the 20th century. In a country that is no longer on the globe. It was a great and terrible Soviet Union. I moved to Canada, Ontario, with my husband and children at the beginning of the XXI century.

As a fashion designer in the past, I used a pen or pencil to sketch clothes, but throughout my professional life, I have dreamed of creating oil paintings. One day, despite being eternally busy—growing kids, taking care of family, and so on—I just told myself: Stop dreaming and start creating art on canvas by turning your dreams into reality.
