Beauty in Stillness, an international online solo photography exhibition by Funda Gulmen, opens on February 01, 2023, and will continue through March 03, 2023.
Funda's work is inspired by his profession as a naturopathic physician. She uses natural therapies such as food, flowers, sunlight and water to help people heal. Also, an a yoga instructor she teaches people how to use movement and breath to transcend the body and mind. When balance is restored with natural medicines, a person can reconnect with the natural heart and spirit that always exist within. For Funda Gulmen hotography happens to be both her personal medicine and meditation, always bringing her back to center and clarity. She hopes that these images similarly uplift and inspire others...a reminder and reflection from the outer world of the beauty that exists within and reminds people of the beauty and power of nature to heal.

Artist:
Funda M. Gulmen’s photography training came via a couple of classes at the community art center in Hyde Park, Chicago. Very quickly she found herself spending many hours shooting, processing and developing film. Initially, her work focused mostly on portraits, events, and photojournalism. She then moved to Connecticut to simultaneously begin medical school and yoga teacher training. Although at times the demands of working in healthcare almost forced her to give up photography entirely, it became her personal medicine and meditation offering balance and lightness. With the years she became more drawn to capturing images while traveling or walking in nature. Despite now using a digital camera, she still photographs in a very analog way only using natural light, for example. She feels this type of simple, organic artistic process helps her be more present with her subject and focus on its unique and subtle essence.
