BRINGING FESTIVE CHEER AND THE PRINT I WISH WAS UNDER MY TREE THIS YEAR : THE JEALOUS X-MAS SHOW

Submitted by taieseid on 15 December 2016 - 12:52pm

Its that time of year again, across the country trees are being brought indoors twinkly lights line the roads and presents are being wrapped. Perhaps some of you, might even be lucky enough to be unwrapping a piece from this years JEALOUS X-MAS show on the big day!

Split across the two Jealous galleries, North (Crouch End) and East (Shoreditch) it features an eclectic and extensive mix of wonderful pieces. All of which come from some form of collaboration within the Jealous Print Studio. From their incredibly talented in-house print team, to The Connor Brothers with whom they shared a booth at the Affordable Art Fair earlier this year, to artists they’ve long had a collaboration with.

The theme? Bright, cheerful, festive and fun. What more can you ask for at this time of year, the gallery spaces are adorned from wall to wall with beautiful pieces and a sprinkling of tinsel and festive treats is a welcome sight. The diversity of the works on shows means there really is something for everyone and everywhere you turn something else grabs your eye.

The majority of works are prints, like one of our faves by Jess Wilson (the Jealous Print Studios Creative Director) but not exclusively. All the works on display, if they aren’t already gone, are for sale (but I don’t imagine they’ll be there for long though!). But if they’re a little out of your budget they’ve also got a fab selection of stocking fillers in the form of printed mugs, smaller prints and the like.

We’ve picked some of our favourites from the two galleries for your viewing pleasure now, but we highly recommend you pop down and check it out. Who knows you might just find that perfect present you’ve been missing.

JEALOUS EAST

“Suds” by Joss Fenn

Reminiscent of the giant red rollers smooshing against the car windows in the drive through car wash, (heads up its my fave of the show, so if it can somehow magically appear under my tree that would be ace).

“Central London Map” by Jess Wilson

Comprised of all of the street names in different fonts and sizes to create a stunning 3D-esque map of central London, and if you look closely at the river the shiny varnish makes it look like flowing water how cool is that!

“So Jealous” by Ben Eine

You, like I did, will probably recognise Ben’s lettering from across the capital, but he’s been working with Jealous for a number of years (he even has a temporary studio space in their print studios) and created this awesome Perspex layered print especially for the guys down at Jealous.

“The Only Thing I’m Sure of is That I’m Sure of Nothing” & “It Is My Heartfelt Desire To Improve But I Never Do” & “Falling Boy” by Charming Baker

Made by the famous British artist responsible for the artwork for the republishing’s of Roald Dahl Classics. The series of 3 paintings featuring childrens’ play horses against harsh industrial looking backgrounds, with a wonderful juxtaposition between play, construction and destruction.

JEALOUS NORTH

“Just Steve” by Russell Marshall

Steve McQueen police mugshot. Need more be said, but it’s part of a wider series featuring mugshot prints from the likes of Elvis Presley to Sid Vicious.

“Dangerous” by Shuby

If you want colourful, this is the one! The collage turned digital print with added screen printing is just damn cool!

Original Drawings by Anka Dabrowska

This little line illustration is so unassuming you might almost miss it, but the detail is incredible (immediate mental links to the works of Quentin Blake with that line work).
